Prevent and British Values
Keeping children safe from extremism
Like all schools, Princess May has a legal duty under the Prevent duty to help prevent children from being drawn into terrorism or extremism. We treat this as part of our wider safeguarding work. All staff are trained to recognise signs that a child may be at risk and to report any concern straight away to our Designated Safeguarding Lead, who will decide what action to take, including seeking advice from the local authority where needed.
Building resilience through our curriculum
Our aim is to help children become resilient, thoughtful young people. Through our curriculum, PSHE and RE lessons and assemblies, pupils learn to ask questions, weigh up evidence, respect differing views and experiences, and make sound judgements for themselves about what is right and wrong. Our school values of Respect, Empathy and Determination underpin this work.
British values
We actively promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. Find out how on our British Values page.
Information for parents and carers
