English: Writing
Writing
Pupils learn to write for different purposes and audiences through high-quality texts, following the Literary Tree programme. Each lesson’s grammar or punctuation skill is modelled by the teacher, and pupils work towards a weekly target using our Writing Fundamentals Checklist. Pupils publish and perform their writing.
Spelling
We teach spelling with Read Write Inc. Spelling from Year 2 to Year 6, in two short sessions a week. Pupils bring home 6–8 spellings each week, linked to the rule taught in class, and are tested on applying the rule.
Handwriting
Handwriting is taught from Reception to Year 6 using Read Write Inc. Handwriting. Reception focuses on forming letters correctly; joined handwriting begins in Key Stage 1. We aim for all pupils to write in neat, joined handwriting by the end of Year 4.
